Hello, Developer Division

·396 words

What’s a start to the year without some changes. Well, at least for me the change meant a switch of teams and organizations within Microsoft. After two-and-a-half years in the Security division, it was time to say goodbye to the many talented folks in the MSAL and Identity for Services teams, as well as the airy halls of Studio A in Redmond.

Yes, by all means, teach people to put the thermal paste on the CPU before inserting it into the socket.

I am joining the amazing crew in the Developer Division (colloquially known as DevDiv). Yes, that Developer Division - the folks behind Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, engineering-focused Copilot integrations, and all the developer-focused awesomeness that’s out there (it’s a lot).

You might’ve even heard some names of folks that already work there, like Amanda Silver, Brady Gaster, Maira Wenzel, Jeff Wilcox, Mandy Whaley, Scott Hanselman, Lori Fraleigh, Scott Hunter, Rich Lander, Immo Landwerth, Simon Calvert, Chuck Lantz, Scott Addie, Damien Caro, Josh Free, Christopher Scott, Charles Lowell, and so many others. I could go on forever. Many of them I’ve worked with while in the security space, and now we get to partner again within the same org. Good company to be in and learn from!

This feels like finding my home. I built my entire career around developer tools, open source, custom APIs, services, and finding ways to make engineers more productive with ergonomic SDKs and toolchains. Being so close to Microsoft’s developer ecosystem has never been more exciting, and I so look forward to contributing to this space a bit more directly.

A thank you note #

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the many people that helped make this transition happen, both from the Security and DevDiv sides of the house. I can’t take credit for this change. I am eternally grateful for every single one of you for going to bat for me through some of the most complicated processes - now my job is to make sure I don’t disappoint you.

Let’s stay in touch #

If you’d like to follow along on my adventures with developer tooling, provide some suggestions or feedback, or even if you would just like to connect - stop by!

Words cannot describe how pumped I am to help build better developer tools. Let’s go!
